Kid Art Auction for Earth Day 2009

Here’s a little story about two bloggers who got to know each other through a little thing one of them created called Kid Art Auction for Earth Day. Aimee (aka @Greeblemonkey) and I had become acquainted during Nablopomo November 2007, realized we were practically neighbors, and a blogging friendship was struck. Then she comes up with this wicked cool idea about Kid Art Auction for Earth Day 2008. I thought the idea was grand so I approached my kids’ art teacher at their school and she had one of her classes create some cool Warhol-esque earth paintings that we auctioned off. With only one spot of controversy that I won’t get into here, the auction was a mad success. The second best part of it for me, after helping raise nearly $800 for a cause that I feel is utterly important (saving the planet), was getting a chance to get to know Aimee better. She rocks. If you are one of the few people in the world who don’t have her on your radar yet, well, switch your frequency yo! She is the shiz!

Aimee’s done a great job putting this together, so I won’t bore you with the deets here. Scoot on over to her place and check it out! Not to belabor the fact that there was controversy last year, but there are rules: Kids art only, must be a flickr member, get your kids pumped up to save the planet and explain to them that someone will be buying their artwork and your will send it away and they will not get the money for it. They must agree and if they don’t you should ground them forever for not caring enough about the planet explain to them what an important cause this is and how important it is to support it.

Also!! Don’t forget to follow @kidartauction on Twitter to stay up to date with the latest and greatest from now until Earth Day! April 22, 2009. Proceeds to support The Nature Conservancy because they rock too!

Also, take the logo at the top if you like or this hear thumbnail!
