Twitter Feed from Lunch With Gloria Steinem

I had the amazing opportunity today to attend a private luncheon with Gloria Steinem at a friend’s house. I invited Julie from Mothergoosemouse to join me and we were both moved on so many levels. Ms. Steinem is in town talking to voters (mostly women but not all) about this election which she calls, “…a life-or-death election, and absolutely the most important one in my lifetime.”

I will write more about it tomorrow but for today here are the Tweets I live-blogged during her talk. It was nothing short of inspiring on so many levels. Read them from the bottom up for chronological accuracy!

Gloria steinem was amazing. @mothergoosemouse was brought to tears by her kind words about true republicans. GS is true communty organizer!
@JoeyMcAllister they don’t think 48 will pass. Polls showing it opposed by 60% of voters. But still, only 60%?!?!
G: terrorism is really a cult of masculinity.
G: there is no real polarization. On most issues there is @ least 70% agreement on most issues.
G: I believe when Obama wins then the true Republican’s can take their party back from the extremists.
I’ll just say right now how phenomenal this woman is.
G: change comes from the bottom up not from the top down. Like building a house, you start at the bottom and build up!
G: create democracy circles that meet once a month and really talk about the issues all the time.
G: for the first time in my life people aren’t wanting to vote, they are fighting for it!
G: create jobs by putting funds into infrastructure and creating green jobs.
What is missing is a visceral connection between the water bottle we drink and the candidates who seek to do away with the clean water act.
G: People dislike affirmative action because of the false pretense that they create preferential treatment.
G: Even if parents get angry that the children will always remember when an adult stood up for them.
She is here because CO is a swing state with more confusing issues on the ballot.
G: real democracy is people in other people’s back yard.
Yay Gloria!
